PCV Training.
Okay, let’s look at some of the phrases used and what they actually mean:
PCV: This stands for Passenger Carrying Vehicle. PCV Entitlement is a qualification you get when a further test is taken to drive coaches and buses.
MINIBUS: This is defined as a vehicle that has been either designed or adapted to carry more than 8 but less than 17 passengers. That excludes the driver.
EXISTING DRIVERS: This is anyone who has passed their car entitlement test before 1st January 1997. The advantage of having passed before this date is that you have an entitlement to drive small buses and lorries. If you got your licence after 1990 but before 1997 these are shown as B, B+E, C1, C1+E (restriction 7), D1 (restriction 1), D1+E (restriction 1).
NEW DRIVERS: New drivers are defined as anyone who passes their test after 1st January 1997. These drivers have significantly fewer entitlements. Only “B” entitlement will appear on their licence.
Yes, all very confusing and it gets more complicated as you dig down. just give us a call and we will be happy to explain what your licence does and does not entitle you to. You can get us on 020 7018 5060 or 07818 408336.
